Jo studied BSc Equine Science, Management and Training, leaving the college in 2021. At the time of writing, she was employed as a pharmacy manager for Boots.
She told us, “I would describe Derby College as inclusive and accessible. The courses offer a route to further and higher education to people of different abilities and from all walks of life.
“One of my favourite things about the college was the equestrian facilities, plus the accessibility to the main site to use the library and food outlets.
Jo says that DCG help unlock her academic potential after a very difficult start in life. “I left school with two GCSEs and a chronic pain condition and spent many years in poorly paid jobs. At one time I was homeless. But now I am now doing a research degree at Nottingham Vet School.”
What was your fondest memory, Jo? “I really enjoyed riding again after a 10-year break, I’m being accepted as a mature learner by my peers.”
