Travel student Tayla embarks on exciting journey with TUI
Derby College travel and tourism student Tayla Barnes is broadening her horizons after landing a full-time job as a travel adviser with TUI, the world’s largest travel group.
Tayla, who completes her level 3 course this in Nottingham’s busy city centre TUI branch assisting with customers’ bookings and inquiries.
Tayla, who is 19 and from Heanor has always liked travel and was delighted to discover her perfect course at Derby College.
She said: “I had thought about doing A levels after school but the travel and tourism course at Derby College really appealed to me. I honestly had no idea that such a course existed but once I knew it did, I went along to a college open day and found out as much information as I could.”
I enjoy college. The staff are really good – they’re always there to help us and the course content is great. I’ve learned so much, particularly about the business side of the travel industry.
Tayla first began her journey with TUI after getting part-time work at the group’s Ilkeston branch though college. She is now looking forward to her travel adviser’s role, and, in a few years’ time, taking the opportunity to move departments within TUI, perhaps working for its airline or call centres.
